Softball Recap: Lewis County Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Lewis County extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 9-4 in the process. They came out on top against the Robert C. Byrd Eagles by a score of 8-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-2 back in March.

The team relied heavily on Jaelyn Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Addisyn Posey also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lewis County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

As for Robert C. Byrd, they dropped their record down to 0-16 with the loss, which was their 11th straight at home. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Lewis County since on Tuesday.

On Robert C. Byrd's side, Lexi Hardy made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Cadence Blake was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Coming up, Lewis County will face off against North Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Robert C. Byrd, they will welcome Philip Barbour at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colts have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
