Basketball Recap: Southern Valley Comes Up Short

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Saturday. Southern Valley took a blow against Overton, falling 66-35. The matchup marked Southern Valley's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Southern Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Isaac Hamilton, who posted 12 points. Jacob Rice also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Overton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brock McCarter out in front who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 16 boards. The contest was McCarter's tenth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Eli Luther, who shot 64% from the field to rack up 20 points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Southern Valley and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for Overton, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Southern Valley and Norton will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' defense better be ready for this one: the Bluejays have averaged an impressive 51.2 points per game this season. Overton and Anselmo-Merna will compete for holiday cheer on Tuesday.
