Basketball Recap: Ponderosa's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Highlands Ranch, Ponderosa was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Sand Creek Scorpions by a score of 54-47. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Ponderosa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaron Crown, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave Crown a new career-high in assists. Cade Heiden was another key player, going 5 for 11 en route to 16 points.

Crown wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Ponderosa was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sand Creek only racked up nine assists.

Despite the loss, Sand Creek still got an impressive performance from Mathew Starks, who posted 12 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Starks has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Brantley, who put up eight points.

Ponderosa's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11. As for Sand Creek, they moved to 15-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Ponderosa wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-36 defeat against ThunderRidge on the 4th. Sand Creek has also already played their next match, a 72-43 win against Sierra on the 4th.
