Soccer Game Preview: Sumner vs. Durant

Sumner hasn't had much luck against Durant recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Sumner Stingrays will venture away from home to face off against the Durant Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Durant is hoping to do what Lennard couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Sumner's winning streak, which now stands at eight games. Sumner never let Lennard onto the board and left with a 7-0 win. Given the Stingrays' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Longhorns are ranked 333rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sumner's offense was hitting Lennard from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Jade-Mykahl Hendricks led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, everything went Durant's way against Plant City on Tuesday as Durant made off with an 8-0 victory.

Sumner's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those five matches. As for Durant, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
