Baseball Game Preview: Minico Spartans vs. Marsh Valley Eagles

The Minico Spartans will face off against the Marsh Valley Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Minico barely beat Pocatello the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Minico was the clear victor by a 12-6 margin over Pocatello on Friday. With that victory, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Noah Rich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Minico is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Will Cofer, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jase Murphy, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Cofer wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Minico kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. Minico is 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Marsh Valley put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand American Falls a 20-0 shutout. Give the Eagles' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Marsh Valley's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games. As for Minico, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.
