Middleton has gone a perfect 9-0 against Nampa recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Vikings will take on the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Middleton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Nampa's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Tuesday, Middleton had just enough and edged out Skyview 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.
Middleton's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Miklancic, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Kenadi Whitlow was another, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nampa). They blew past Columbia 25-1 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.
Kaylee Mathson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Tailynn Hirchert was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Sarah Reveles, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Nampa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matches.
Middleton pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Nampa, their record now sits at 14-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Middleton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Nampa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Middleton skirted past Nampa 5-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
