The New Deal Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Sudan Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. New Deal will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
13 must be New Deal's lucky number: they beat Ralls with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers stepped up to hand the Jackrabbits a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Lions have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
David Aguirre was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ray Alonzo, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
New Deal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Sudan's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They lost 17-7 to Olton. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Hornets have suffered since February 27th.
Cal Carter made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kincaid Boehning, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
New Deal pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Sudan, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-7.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Deal has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .529. However, it's not like Sudan struggles in that department as they've averaged .512. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Deal might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Sudan when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
