Softball Recap: Dedham Drops Highest Score of Season Against Milton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dedham). They had just enough and edged out the Milton Wildcats 12-11 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Marauders considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Julia Walsh made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Nicole Andrews was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Alaina Martin was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Dedham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Dedham pushed their record up to 4-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Milton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dedham will face off against Ashland at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Milton, they will head out to face off against Notre Dame Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
