Baseball Recap: Florence Takes a Loss

Florence had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it four. They lost 15-0 to the Woodland Park Panthers. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Huskies' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Woodland Park, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

For Woodland Park's part, Cody Becker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Becker has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Vieux, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Link Bryden was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

While Florence had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
