Basketball Recap: Greenway's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

If Greenway was riding high fresh off their 68-16 takedown of Cactus last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Greenway Demons took a 49-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Agua Fria Owls on Wednesday. The Demons were not able to make up for their loss to the Owls from their previous meeting back in November of 2023.

Despite the loss, Greenway still got an impressive performance from Alexandra Vazquez, who went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and five steals. That's the most points Vazquez has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Raven Gayden, who posted four points and eight assists.

Even though they lost, Greenway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Saleen Rios continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Agua Fria, putting up 27 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was N'Veyah Clark, who had two points and seven boards.

With the defeat, Greenway broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-5. As for Agua Fria, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Greenway wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 82-27 loss against Estrella Foothills on the 12th. As for Agua Fria, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-20 victory against Dysart on the 12th.
