Softball Recap: Venice Extends Winning Streak to Four

Venice had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over the Lemon Bay Manta Rays. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jayde Neptune looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Raionna Smith and Addison Queen did most of the damage at the plate: Smith scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Queen went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Smith continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Riley Sullivan also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Venice kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lemon Bay only managed four hits.

Venice pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Lemon Bay, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Venice will welcome Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Charlotte will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Venice surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lemon Bay, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-1 loss against Mariner on the 10th.
