Football Game Preview: St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans vs. Roxana Shells + Official Tickets

The St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans will square off against the Roxana Shells at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

St. Joseph-Ogden is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Benton 17-14. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Kaden Wedig went supernova, picking up 169 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Roxana blew past Frankfort, posting a 55-26 victory. The Shells might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 27 points or more this season.

Roxana found their leader in sophomore Mekhi Shorter, who rushed for 102 yards and one TD on only ten carries.

Roxana was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 242 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 231 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Roxana's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for St. Joseph-Ogden, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. St. Joseph-Ogden has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 174.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Roxana struggles in that department as they've been averaging 314.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

St. Joseph-Ogden and Roxana were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, but St. Joseph-Ogden came up empty-handed after a 48-47 defeat. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
