Football Recap: Campo Verde Falls to Capistrano Valley in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Campo Verde had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 26-16 to the Capistrano Valley Cougars on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Coyotes came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 44th in Arizona, while the Cougars are ranked 133rd in California).

Jonah Lubno threw for 159 yards on 14 of 24 attempts. Wyatt Rauch was his top target, picking up 58 receiving yards.

Capistrano Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brody Saavedra led the charge by picking up 43 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jolan Gonzalez made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Capistrano Valley has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Campo Verde will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Ironwood Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Capistrano Valley, they will head out to face off against Crean Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
