Baseball Recap: Sumner Takes a Loss

Sumner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Tampa Catholic Crusaders.

Winston Pennant made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan DeJesus, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.

Pennant wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Sumner lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Sumner's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Tampa Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.

Looking ahead, Sumner will venture away from home to challenge East Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sumner is facing East Bay at the right time seeing as East Bay is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Tampa Catholic, they will welcome Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
