There's no place like home for Muenster, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Windthorst Trojans 53-13 on Friday. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Trojans are ranked 545th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Muenster's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Casen Carney led the charge by rushing for 124 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 147 yards and one touchdown on only 14 passes. Carney also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making two total tackles and defending two passes. Another back making a difference was Dustyn Croft, who rushed for 116 yards and a pair of scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Muenster was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 440 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 193 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Muenster's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Chris Hernandez, Brody Charles, and Jackson Becker, who each picked up one sack apiece. Brady Klement was another major factor on D, making 13 total tackles and defending one pass.
When it comes to explaining why Windthorst lost, don't look at Brock Belcher. Despite the final result, he rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 204 yards on 21 of 36 attempts. Hunter Anderle was another key player, rushing for 63 yards and one TD.
Muenster pushed their record up to 2-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points over those games. As for Windthorst, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Coming up, Muenster will head out to challenge Pottsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,100 yards in their previous games. As for Windthorst, they will welcome Alvord at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
