The Auburn Eagles will square off against the Narrows Green Waves at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Auburn's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Narrows has been banged up by 16 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Auburn had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Grayson County on Wednesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Blue Devils. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by seven runs or more this season.
Skyler Hodges looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hope Wilson, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnnie Gaynor, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Narrows couldn't beat Craig County on Thursday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the second inning. The Green Waves took a 15-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rockets.
Braylee Robertson and Hannah Eastburn stepped up to the plate in a big way. Robertson went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Eastburn went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Kaycee Duncan, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Narrows' loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Auburn, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.
Narrows' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Auburn has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Narrows, though, as they've been averaging 12.2 hits. Given Auburn's sizable advantage in that area, the Green Waves will need to find a way to close that gap.
Auburn took their win against Narrows in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Green Waves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
