Soccer Game Preview: St. Edward's vs. Pine

St. Edward hasn't had much luck against Pine recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The St. Edward's Pirates will take on the Pine Knights at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

St. Edward's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on John Carroll Catholic with a sharp 3-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Lilly Jensen and Caroline Langsam scored all three of St. Edward's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 24 goals.

Meanwhile, Pine came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 goals) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Sharks 13-0. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Sharks are ranked 536th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pine pushed their record up to 10-1-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 36 goals over those four games. As for St. Edward's, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season.

St. Edward's might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Pine in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Can St. Edward's avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
