Softball Game Preview: Valley View Spartans vs. Edgewood Cougars

Valley View hasn't had much luck against Edgewood recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will take on the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Valley View has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Monday, Valley View didn't have quite enough to beat Brookville and fell 12-10. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly two runs.

Jillian Shell led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Megan Coleman was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Edgewood lost 7-1 to Ross on Monday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Edgewood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evelyn Henson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Sam Verhoff also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Valley View, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Edgewood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Valley View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. It's a different story for Edgewood, though, as they've only averaged .262. Will they be able to contain Valley View's hitters?

Valley View might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Edgewood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
