Port Byron lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Cato-Meridian, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Blue Devils on Tuesday. The Panthers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2024.
Connor Usowski was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Usowski was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Usowski wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matt Howell, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
The victory got Port Byron back to even at 1-1.
Looking ahead, Port Byron will venture away from home to challenge Tully at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Cato-Meridian, they will welcome Jordan-Elbridge at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
