Volleyball Recap: East Burke Cavaliers vs. Draughn Wildcats

If East Burke was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of East Rutherford on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cavaliers came up short against the Draughn Wildcats on Thursday, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

East Burke was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Draughn work for it, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 27-25.

East Burke's offense was headlined by Karlie Chester and Belle Gwyn, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Carissa Towery and her 19 assists. Finally, Amanda McLean kept East Burke's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Draughn was led to victory by Macy Auton and Peyton Brewer. Auton had 13 digs and two aces, while Brewer had nine digs. That's the most digs Brewer has posted since back in August.

East Burke's loss dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Draughn, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
