Basketball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short

Holmes played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the First Flight Nighthawks, falling 47-19. The Aces haven't had much luck with the Nighthawks recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

First Flight found their leader in sophomore Maddy Beatson, who went 7 for 15 to rack up 22 points and six steals. Beatson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 21 games she's played dating back to last season. Sara Basnight was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Holmes' defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for First Flight, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Holmes has already played their next game, a 50-35 win against Hertford County on the 8th. As for First Flight, they will challenge Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. First Flight is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season.
