Amarillo took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lubbock-Cooper, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Sandies skirted past the Pirates 6-4. This was a revenge game for the Sandies: when they faced off against the Pirates back in March, they had to take a 13-1 loss.

Mykaela Samuels was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Braylee Shuffield, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Amarillo is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lubbock-Cooper, the defeat snapped their winning streak at 16 games and leaves them with a 24-5 record.
