Basketball Recap: Pius X Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Gretna East

On Tuesday, Pius X faced Gretna East in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Pius X Thunderbolts snuck past the Gretna East Griffins with a 46-41 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 43-41 back in December of 2024.

Pius X got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keeleigh Knobbe out in front who went 7 of 14 on her way to 17 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Knobbe a new career-high in boards. Hannah Bedient was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

The win was the third in a row for Pius X, bringing their record for this year to 16-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Gretna East, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Pius X will look to defend their home court on Friday against Norris at 5:45 p.m. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Pius X has won nine straight at home, while Norris won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
