Basketball Recap: Council Grove Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Council Grove can now relate to. They fell 61-49 to the Hesston Swathers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Swathers are ranked 15th).

Despite the loss, Council Grove still got an impressive performance from Brycen Palmquist, who shot 44% from the field to rack up 16 points. Palmquist is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Reid Buttrey, who posted six points and three steals.

Council Grove's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Hesston, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.

As of now, neither Council Grove nor Hesston have any future games scheduled.
