Baseball Recap: Millard North Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Victory

Millard North faced Gretna East in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Griffins. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Noah Gartner tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Buresh, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one triple and one run. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Tanner Evans also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The win (which was Millard North's seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gretna East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Millard North has already played their next contest, a 4-3 win against Elkhorn South on the 4th. As for Gretna East, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Lincoln East on the 4th.
