Preview: Hawkinsville Red Devils vs. Treutlen Vikings
Hawkinsville is 1-7 against Treutlen since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hawkinsville Red Devils will be playing at home against the Treutlen Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hawkinsville unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Telfair County 70-64. The game was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but Hawkinsville was outscored by Telfair County in the second.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Nelson Singletary, who scored 17 points along with six steals and five assists. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Darius Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 19 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Hawkinsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Treutlen posted their biggest win since December 12, 2023 on Saturday. They blew past Montgomery County 79-39 at home. Given Treutlen's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while Montgomery County is ranked 444th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hawkinsville's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Treutlen, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
