Basketball Recap: Sylva Bay Academy Comes Up Short

Sylva Bay Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 51-32 bruising from the Laurel Christian Lions. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 32-31 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Sylva Bay Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Livy Shumock posted ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Lily Hatcher was another key player, putting up six points.

Even though they lost, Sylva Bay Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Sylva Bay Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Laurel Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Sylva Bay Academy is facing Discovery Christian at the right time seeing as Discovery Christian is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Laurel Christian, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Newton County Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Newton County Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Laurel Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
