Basketball Game Preview: Hawkinsville Red Devils vs. Dooly County Bobcats

The Hawkinsville Red Devils will square off against the Dooly County Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Hawkinsville is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Montgomery County to the tune of 62-17 on Saturday. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-9.

Hawkinsville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kyla Slocumb, who went 8 for 12 en route to 22 points and seven steals, and Alicia Newman, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Slocumb continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Dede Drake also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steals of the season.

Hawkinsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Dooly County posted their biggest victory since December 21, 2024 on Monday. They claimed a resounding 50-22 win over Montgomery County. The victory continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

Dooly County's win came from a few key players Hawkinsville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ja'Kayla Hooks, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 18 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jazlyn Hall, who posted 21 points and eight rebounds.

Hawkinsville's record is now 7-17. As for Dooly County, their record is now 8-14.
