Basketball Recap: Buckhannon-Upshur Comes Up Short

Buckhannon-Upshur was the 51-44 winner over Ripley when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers fell to the Ripley Vikings 43-38. That's two games in a row now that the Buccaneers have lost by exactly five points.

When it comes to explaining why Buckhannon-Upshur lost on Thursday, don't look at Jerin Westfall. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. The game was Westfall's fifth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Robinette, who posted seven points and seven boards.

Blake Justice was his usual excellent self, going 6-for-13 en route to 16 points and four steals for Ripley. Justice has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Doss, who put up 12 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Buckhannon-Upshur and nudges their season record down to 10-7. As for Ripley, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-4.

Coming up, Buckhannon-Upshur will take on Parkersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ripley, they will square off against Wayne at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
