Baseball Recap: Watertown-Mayer Takes a Loss

Watertown-Mayer suffered their closest defeat since May 16, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Holy Family Catholic Fire by a score of 7-5. The loss continues a trend for the Royals in their meetings with the Fire: they've now lost five in a row.

Noah Leuthner put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Leuthner was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Noah Weinzierl was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Watertown-Mayer now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Holy Family Catholic, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-5 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Watertown-Mayer will venture away from home to take on Rockford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rockets' pitching crew has only allowed 0.7 runs per game this season, so the Royals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Holy Family Catholic, they are taking a road trip to face off against Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
