Softball Recap: Proviso West Panthers vs. Willowbrook Warriors

Proviso West had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell victim to a tough 19-0 defeat at the hands of the Willowbrook Warriors on Tuesday. The loss means Proviso West is still on the hunt for the season's first 'W'.

For Willowbrook's part, Isabel Bates made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Bates has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. Bates was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marli Smrz, who went 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Another player making a difference was Liz Pettinger, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
