Baseball Game Preview: Gaston Day Spartans vs. Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors

Gaston Day hasn't had much luck against Metrolina Christian Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Spartans will head out to take on the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Gaston Day has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Gaston Day is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They lost 15-2 to SouthLake Christian Academy.

Gaston Day saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Kimrey, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Kellen Carr also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Metrolina Christian Academy waltzed into their game on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 6-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 contests by six runs or more this season.

Metrolina Christian Academy also got a great performance from Case Gibbs as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gibbs has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Abram Hargett was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Metrolina Christian Academy's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Gaston Day, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14.

Gaston Day suffered a grim 21-0 defeat to Metrolina Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
