Soccer Game Preview: Cave Spring vs. Glenvar

The Cave Spring Knights will head out to face off against the Glenvar Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cave Spring has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight defeats, while Glenvar will come in with 13 straight victories.

Cave Spring fell victim to Blacksburg and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They lost 3-0 to the Bruins. While losing is never fun, Cave Spring can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Blacksburg are ranked first).

Meanwhile, Glenvar kept a clean sheet against Alleghany last Thursday. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 6-0 win. Glenvar's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last five contests.

Glenvar's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 52 goals over those seven games. As for Cave Spring, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11-1.

Everything went Cave Spring's way against Glenvar in their previous matchup back in May of 2018, as Cave Spring made off with a 5-2 victory. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
