Recap: Manzano Monarchs vs. Volcano Vista Hawks
The Manzano Monarchs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 73-55 fall against Volcano Vista. Manzano has struggled against Volcano Vista recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Manzano had strong showings from Shane Erni, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Donavan Rhodes, who scored 19 points. The match was Rhodes' fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Manzano's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-6. As for Volcano Vista, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manzano will take on Hobbs at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Hobbs is ranked 41st, while Manzano is ranked 66th). As for Volcano Vista, they will be playing at home against Highland at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Highland knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matchups -- so hopefully Volcano Vista likes a good challenge.
