Softball Game Preview: Wood Wildcats vs. Vacaville Bulldogs

Wood is 1-9 against Vacaville since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wildcats will square off against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Wood's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Vacaville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Wood's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pioneer on Wednesday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Vacaville made sure to put some runs up on the board against Clayton Valley Charter on Tuesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Ugly Eagles with a sharp 28-20 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Makayla Morgan was incredible, going 6-for-7 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Kyne, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Vacaville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two strikeouts batters in five consecutive games.

Vacaville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Wood, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.

Wood might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Vacaville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
