Top 25 Sac-Joaquin Section high school softball rankings: Final rankings ... for now

A look at the final Sac-Joaquin Section Top 25 softball rankings until the season resumes.

Vikings were off to a 4-0 start.

Softball is on a hold around the Sac-Joaquin Section and the country amid the coronavirus pandemic. We're all hoping the Class of 2020 seniors and every player will get another chance on the field this season.

We were right at the point where league play was beginning for some while others were close. We understand that is the time when the real play begins. All we can do is stay positive and maybe teams will be back on the dirt in a few weeks.  

Until then, here are the Top 25 rankings and 10 additional teams we were considering before the season was put on pause.

1. (Last week 1) Del Oro (Loomis), 4-0
The Golden Eagles opened league play with a 10-0 win over Whitney.

2. (3) Roseville, 5-0
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 start in league play with a 9-2 win over Woodcreek.



3. (3) Vanden (Fairfield), 5-0
Vanden is 2-0 in Monticello Empire League play.

4. (4) Vista del Lago (Folsom), 4-1
The Eagles bounced back with two-straight wins after falling 3-0 to Roseville.

5. (5) Tracy, 3-3
The Tri-City Athletic League is loaded with talent this year. Tracy was hoping to show it has what it takes to win league.

6. (5) Oakdale, 6-1
The Mustangs are on a six-game win streak.

7. (7) Oakmont (Roseville), 4-0
The Vikings started the season outscoring its opponents 42-7.

8. (8) St. Francis (Sacramento), 5-1
The Troubadours bounced back after 3-2 loss to Vista del Lago.

9. (13) Ponderosa (Shingle Springs), 7-1

The Bruins are on a three-game win streak after falling to St. Francis.

10. (16) Enochs (Modesto), 7-0
Enochs makes a leap in the rankings after starting the season with seven-straight wins.



11. (12) Whitney (Rocklin), 2-2
The Wildcats loses are to the top two teams in the rankings. The last game was a 6-1 win over Folsom.

12. (10) Folsom, 1-2
The Bulldogs beat Rocklin and then fell to Whitney. They are 1-1 in SFL play.

13. (11) Rocklin, 5-3
The Thunder have been up and down so far, but have shown they can hang with anyone.

14. (13) Sheldon (Sacramento), 0-2
Huskies still one of the favorites to come out of a very tough Delta League.

15. (14) Elk Grove, 2-2
The Herd hoping to show everyone what they look like when fully healthy.

16. (15) St. Mary's (Stockton) 5-1
The Rams lone loss was to Spanish Springs of Nevada. They bounced back and beat them the next game.

17. (17) Merced, 7-0-1
After a tie with Pitman, Merced has won four-straight.



18. (18) Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove), 4-1
The Eagles have one of the top players in the country in Utah commit Sophie Jacquez

19. (19) Center (Antelope), 7-1
The Cougars lone loss was 2-0 against a very good East Nicolaus squad.

20. (20) Pitman (Turlock) 7-0-1
Pitman is batting .433 as a team with eight triples.

21. (22) Antelope, 3-0
The Titans have allowed just one run in three games.

22. (23) Lincoln, 4-3
The Zebras have shown they can stay in ball games with just about anyone.

23. (24) Modesto, 10-0
Modesto got in 10 wins before action was halted.

24. (25) Lindhurst (Olivehurst), 7-1
Lone loss was 2-0 to East Nicolaus.



25. (NR) Rodriguez (Fairfield), 5-0
Rodriguez off to a perfect start.
