Basketball Recap: Lyla Trigg's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Knightstown over North Decatur

Knightstown lost against North Decatur back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Panthers fell 48-43 to the Chargers. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lyla Trigg, who went 6-for-11 en route to 14 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Lilly Drew, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

North Decatur got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jo Whitaker out in front who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards. Whitaker is becoming a predictor of the Chargers' success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when she doesn't). Carmen Thackery was another key player, putting up 15 points along with six boards and four steals.

Knightstown's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for North Decatur, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-4.

Coming up, Knightstown will host Edinburgh at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for North Decatur, they will head out on the road to challenge South Ripley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers' defense better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 57 points per game this season.
