Football Recap: Norland Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Norland and American Heritage squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Norland had to settle for second. They came up short against the American Heritage Patriots, falling 35-14. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this game were averaging 13.75 points allowed.

When it comes to explaining why Norland lost, don't look at Ennio Yapoor. Despite the final result, he rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries, and also threw for 200 yards and one touchdown. 92 of those passing yards were hauled in by Dawson Quarterman.

Yapoor was just one part of a punishing run game: Norland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 204 rushing yards in three consecutive matches.

Malachi Toney was his usual excellent self, rushing for 103 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, while also throwing for 122 yards and three touchdowns for American Heritage. Another player making a difference was Jamar Denson, who picked up 74 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Norland's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for American Heritage, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.

Norland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. American Heritage has also already played their next contest, a 38-28 victory against St. Augustine on the 6th.
