Basketball Recap: Polytechnic Takes a Loss

Polytechnic's tournament run continued when they took on Marquez on Friday. The Polytechnic Panthers opened the new year with a less-than-successful 47-40 defeat to the Marquez Gladiators.

Marquez got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Elyjah Staples out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Staples a new career-high in steals (five). Julian Nunez was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 15 points.

Polytechnic's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Marquez, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7-1.

Polytechnic didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 77-29 victory against Hamilton on the 4th. As for Marquez, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-54 defeat against Jordan on the 4th.
