Baseball Recap: Montgomery Takes a Loss

Montgomery was the 4-3 winner over Ridgeview when they last played one another back in April of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Aztecs fell just short of the Wolf Pack by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday.

Erick Ramos was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. He is becoming a predictor of Montgomery's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 4-8 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Marco Reyes was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Montgomery has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.67 runs. As for Ridgeview, their record is now 10-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montgomery will head out to face off against Steele Canyon at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Ridgeview, they will face off against Mira Mesa at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last five games the Marauders have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
