Baseball Game Preview: Great Bend Panthers vs. Hays Indians

The Great Bend Panthers are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge the Hays Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Great Bend's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.

On Friday, Great Bend made easy work of Hutchinson and carried off a 13-6 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Salthawks recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Koehn Ribordy was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Ribordy was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Great Bend let Trenton Kern and Ian Premer run wild. Kern went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Premer scored four runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most RBI Kern has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Umphres, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Hays didn't have quite enough to beat Rock Creek on Tuesday and fell 5-4.

Great Bend pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average this season. As for Hays, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
