Softball Recap: Iota Drops Highest Score of Season Against Ville Platte

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Iota). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Ville Platte a 20-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering Iota has won 11 matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Haydyn Schexnayder was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Chloe Bordelon and Addison Cormier did most of the damage at the plate: Bordelon got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Cormier scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Cormier a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Darbonne, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Iota was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Iota is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ville Platte, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Iota will challenge Welsh at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ville Platte, they will take on Pine Prairie at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
