Recap: Monarch Coyotes vs. Poudre Impalas
Make it four blowout wins for the Monarch Coyotes this season. They breezed by Poudre on the road to the tune of 71-34. Given Monarch's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Poudre is ranked 224th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Monarch to victory were Logan Laverty and Tyler Carlson. Laverty scored 19 points along with two steals, while Carlson scored 22 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Carlson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Van Nellessen, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Several Impalas players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Pierce Decker, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Luke Foster, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Monarch has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Poudre, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monarch will challenge Fossil Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Poudre, they will head out on the road to square off against Fairview at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Fairview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
