Basketball Recap: Hopewell Now 17-1 over Last 18 Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hopewell had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 54-43 win over the Meridian Mustangs. The team accrued 45 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hopewell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Stephon Cherry, who shot 88% from the field on his way to 15 points and seven boards. The contest was Cherry's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Deshawn Spellman was another key player, going 5-for-12 en route to 12 points and six rebounds.

Hopewell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. Meridian moved to 27-1 with that loss, which also ended their 27-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Hopewell will face off against Spotswood at 1:00 p.m. on March 15th. Spotswood will roll in looking for their 20th straight win, something Hopewell surely won't give up without a fight. Meridian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
