Soccer Game Preview: Providence Christian vs. Ariton

The Providence Christian Eagles will head out to challenge the Ariton Purple Cats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Providence Christian has eight straight victories, Ariton has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Providence Christian had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the ten-goal drubbing they dealt Highland Home on Tuesday. The Eagles never let the Flying Squadron get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for Providence Christian, who have now won six contests by four goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting Highland Home from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal. Craig Pittman led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for four goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, Ariton came up short against Houston Academy on Thursday, falling 7-1.

Providence Christian's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five matchups. As for Ariton, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10-1.

Everything went Providence Christian's way against Ariton when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Providence Christian made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
