Baseball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-17 in the process. They came up short against the Northeast Eagles, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on Monday.

As for Northeast, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-15. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Northeast's part, Cameron Skaggs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Skaggs has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Northeast's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-15 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jamarion Green, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Northeast is 4-1 when Green posts three or more RBI, but 10-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cayden Young, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will square off against Portland at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northeast, they will challenge Hunters Lane at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.33 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
