Preview: Decatur Golden Gators vs. Federal Way Eagles
Decatur is 0-9 against Federal Way since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Decatur Golden Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Federal Way Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Decatur put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 42-14 victory over Kent-Meridian on the road. Winning may never get old, but Decatur sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Nehemiah Washington continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 192 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. Washington is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Spencer Holloway was another key contributor, rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Federal Way fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 42-27 win over Kentwood on Friday.
Decatur's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Kent-Meridian, Mt. Rainier, and Tahoma. As for Federal Way, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Decatur took a serious blow against Federal Way when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 50-21. Can Decatur avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
