Baseball Recap: Russell Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Russell put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Shelby County Rockets as Russell made off with a 13-4 win. Fans of the Red Devils have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Jayden Frasure made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Frank Brinkman looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, Russell got a massive performance out of Kyle Mokas, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave Mokas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grayson Kiser, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Russell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Russell's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Shelby County, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coming up, Russell will look to defend their home field on Monday against Lawrence County at 5:30 p.m. As for Shelby County, they will head out on the road to challenge Marion County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
