Volleyball Game Preview: Maxwell Wildcats vs. Mullen Broncos

The Maxwell Wildcats will face off against the Mullen Broncos on Friday.

Maxwell saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brady. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

While Maxwell was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-23.

The losing side was boosted by Madelynn Nelson, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mullen, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over St. Patrick's on Tuesday.

While Mullen might've won, it sure wasn't easy: St. Patrick's scored at least 19 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20.

Mullen's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Maxwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Maxwell has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Mullen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Maxwell took their victory against Mullen in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
