Basketball Recap: Promise Garcia's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grants over Highland

Grants was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 58-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highland Hornets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 42-29 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Promise Garcia, who posted seven points. Garcia is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

Highland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rebecca Neal led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Breanna Payton, who went 6 for 9 on her way to 17 points.

Grants' loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Highland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Grants has already played their next contest, a 45-39 victory against Belen on the 31st. As for Highland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-35 defeat against Valencia on the 31st.
